Do you do custom cakes?
Yes I do! Allie Bakes doesn’t make character cakes but requests for specific colors, flavors, frosting, edible flowers are all possible.
Do you use organic or sustainable ingredients - and where do you source them?
Yes! Every item baked at Allie Bakes is made with organic, and wherever possible sustainable, locally sourced ingredients. Below is a list of the products consistently used in my baked goods:
BUTTER: Straus Family Creamery, California
EGGS: Organic and regenerative New Barn Organics, California
MILK + CREAM: Straus Family Creamery, California
SOUR CREAM: Straus Family Creamery, California
FLOUR: Central Milling Organic, California + Tehachapi Grain Project, California
STRAWBERRIES: Harry’s Berries when in season, California
CHOCOLATE: Chocosphere, Oregon
What is your most popular cake?
My Lemon Blueberry Cake is the most popular. When I ask people how they found me it is often because of this cake. Apparently not a lot of people make them. It is delicious I have to say.
How long do I need to allow for placing an Allie Bakes order?
Please place all orders three days ahead of when you need your order to be ready for pick up or delivery.
Is Allie Bakes a Full Time Bakery?
At this time, it is not. I am emplyed full time in Exhibit Production Design. I bake evenings, weekends and on days off if I have a baking project that affords me the opportunity to do so.
Do you make Dog Treats?
Yes I do make Pup Cakes, biscuits and special order Gotcha and Birthday Cakes. For the most part the dog treats I make are donated for Husky Rescue fundraisers and other neighborhood dog events.
Do you have a store?
No, my home is my store! Allie Bakes is a Cottage Food Operation (CFO) under the California Homemade Food Act. I have a Class A Permit registered with the Los Angeles Health Department to bake and sell from my home kitchen directly to clients for pick-up, delivery and shipping wherever possible. Hearty cookies and flour and such. Cakes don’t ship well I am afraid.
How many KCRW Good Food Pie Contest Ribbons have you won?
Five! I have no idea how this has happened. My first out of body experience at the pie contest was when I won a First Place Ribbon for Best Savory Pie, for which I then won Best In Show. “La Poule au Pot Galette is a famous savory bake by baker Allison Brooker. It won Best in Show at the 6th Annual KCRW Good Food Pie Contest. The unconventional win sparked a famous, humorous debate among the judges because it was technically a free-form galette rather than a traditional pie.”
In addition, I have received two third Place Ribbons for my ChocoPomStachio Pie, just recently for my Strawberry Picnic Pie, and a Second Place Ribbon for my Beachwood Banana’s Foster Pie. A true party in a plate!
